LA Favorites

I had a request to do a post about some of my favorite places and things to do in Los Angeles. Here are just a few of my favorite places that I actually go to and you can find me at during the weekends. From food to workouts, this is just a small round-up of places you may not see on a regular travel guide to LA. If you are visiting LA for the second or third time, these are the kinds of places I would say to go to after you’ve done all of the regular touristy things!

I think I will also create a guide to a few of my favorite places to eat as well soon so watch out for that one! Let me know what you think and what you want to see next!

LA second-hand stores are AMAZING! Even if you go to crossroads or goodwill you are sure to find some name brands. For a genuine thrifty store, I like to go to SLOW Clothing on the corner of Melrose Avenue and Gardner Street. They have really cool prints and I always make a great find! The fair fax area of Melrose Avenue is a great place to get something unique and cool.

Lemonade is my go-to for a healthy meal on the go! I always try something different when I go, but I seem to end up with a side of their broccoli and cheese! This is a great place to get lunch between sightseeing, and the lemonade is of course amazing!

One thing that you must do is drive the PCH! You can take it to Malibu and I recommend doing this because the views of the ocean are amazing! I remember the very first time riding down the PCH with the windows down and the music loud. Definitely a memorable experience!

A fun thing to do when you have a few extra days is to go see a movie! The Melrose Rooftop Theatre is a fun place to see some older favorites accompanied by unlimited popcorn and a view of the sunset against the hills. Snuggle up in a super comfy bean bag chair and blanket and it is definitely a fun experience. Also, EP & LP is right down the stairs so you can make a bar stop right after!

One of my favorite beaches is definitely Matador Beach. The rocks are giant which makes for great shots! I would say that since it is a beach the cell service is horrible and the beach is a bit small so get there early for a good spot and good parking! It is a bit of a drive from LA as it is in the Malibu/Calabasas area, but definitely worth it!

I went to High Tide in the Arts District with a few friends and fell in love! The food was great and it was a great place to stop for drinks! I recommend going before the sun goes down because the outside area is completely pink and perfect for sweet photo ops! I definitely recommend getting a rose and an appetizer for a chill night out.

Want a work out that will leave you sore afterward? Check out, Psycho. Your first class is free so even if you are wanting a quick workout during a longer stay, this one is worth it! Everything is put together so well and it is really an effective HIIT class! They also have yoga sessions that are a great way to relax after a long day!

Moving to LA

I get questions from people all the time who want to move to LA. I also get compliments on actually moving out here. What people do not get is that it is not easy to pick up your life and just up and move. And on top of that, it’s not just the newness of a different city or being away from family and friends. For people who really want to move somewhere else you need to think about having extra money. Money for when your days don’t go right and you want to buy food, or when your sick and need to see a doctor, or when your tight budget does not align right. If you are on a tight budget don’t even think about moving to LA unless you have extra back up cash totaling at least $3,000 because life happens y’all.

My rant is not even close to over. So feel free to scroll through the pretty pictures, leave a cute comment and be on your way because I’m still typing away guys.

Say you have a dream of moving somewhere like New York or LA. It’s sooo hard if you do not have the proper support behind you. No, I’m not talking about good wishes from your dear family and closest friends. I’m talking about cash and a reliable car and a place to live. Know that if you live here you have to have a place to stay. And to have a place to stay you probably need a job. And to get a job you also need a place to stay nearby to be able to go for interviews. Are you seeing what I’m getting at? Its a vicious cycle of both needing each other and that hardly ever happens at the same time.

People do not realize that for the most part, I am all alone. I don’t have family here or real friends. I am slowly getting there luckily because I blog and can reach out to girls. But let me tell you it takes time to make friends when you don’t have common interests with girls especially ones that already have a friend group.

And if you are an introvert FORGET IT. Good luck because it will take you even longer. But I am guessing if you are an introvert you aren’t even keen on moving somewhere new by yourself anyway.

I feel like people think that moving to a new city, especially to pursue your “dream” is a lot like the movie Coyote Ugly. She has a hard time in the beginning and even goes as far as being robbed. But in the next few hours, she finds the coolest job, meets a super cool guy and gets to sing all she wants. EHHHHHH wrong. Yes, I’m sure every once in a while it happens but hate to burst your bubble but ups and downs come and go daily.

Now all of this to say I just want to be realistic to the people who tell me they are “thinking about moving” to LA or anywhere really. I’m not saying don’t do it. I’m saying think it all the way through. Because life isn’t la-la land. Your car will break down and you won’t have anyone to help tow it (happened to me), something bad will happen and your parents will have to fly out to help you (happened to me) and you’ll have a terrible day where you run out of money or you just get too homesick. How are you going to get your car to your new city? What is it like paying taxes for the new job you hope to get because you probably haven’t even gotten it yet. Will you have money to come home for holidays because your savings could be gone in an instant if you get sick or hurt.

I’m not trying to be pessimistic, I just think this was a blog post that needed to be said since everyone undercuts how difficult it can be. Okay, rant over. *drops mic*

What I learned from Festival Season

This past weekend was one crazy weekend! Since it was my first brush with Coachella I was so glad I was able to attend with Gina since she has gone the past four years. While there are so many things to learn still, of course, I wanted to just state a few of the things that stuck out to me the most!

Time : I would recommend not having a strict schedule! Everything is so far apart and walking can take a long time as well! Go with the flow, and for things you really want to be at, plan ahead!

Plan your looks ahead of time : You do not want to worry about what you will be looking like when you are there, you just want to get to the fun! Try on your looks before you leave and write down what accessories go with each look so that you can just change and go!

Bring a jacket for the night time : If you plan to be at Coachella all day into the night you will want a jacket! The winds can get pretty chilly especially if you are having to walk back to your car or Uber

Uber : This one kind of goes with the time one. Ubers can be hard to locate at times and the reception was spotty at one point so give yourself some extra time for this one!

Go with a group : I had so much fun with Gina, and I am so glad it was us two! Most people were in groups and that just seemed like so much fun to me too! All I would say with this one though is to make sure you stick with a person, it can get pretty crazy and confusing there if it’s your first time like me!

This look was the most Coachella look I had! I loved it and wore it all day this day! I had a braid in my hair with gold rings, a fringe skirt, and gold jewelry and I loved it! I got so many compliments on this look as well, and I was able to stay in it without feeling uncomfortable since it was considerably comfy!

Leather Jackets

I had been reading a lot more blogs about capsule closets and that made me think about writing a post on the importance of basics. When I buy pieces to show on the blog, most of the time the clothes are what I call statement pieces. I talk about this a lot but those are the ones with a wow effect. I think a leather jacket is a piece that is both a basic and a statement piece in one and that is really hard to find!

I have been wanting a leather jacket for a long time now. I used to use my roommates to take pictures in, but I, of course, needed my own. Leather jackets can range in price depending on the quality and authenticity of the leather. I added a few different types with various price points below in my round up.

A classic black is all I needed because it can dress up a simple jean and tee or make a feminine dress edgy. What I saying is not new, or innovative in any way, but its a good reminder and should be said every once in a while!

I feel that leather jackets are similar to jeans. You have to try on a few before you find your go-tos! I am the kind of girl that likes basics. I do not like any extra buckles or embellishments, and I am even skeptical about the size of the flaps. But I really liked this one and it was sooo inexpensive! I honestly bought this one because I needed a leather jacket asap and it was so cheap. I bought it from the Charlotte Russe closing sale and it was only $25! I will eventually buy another black leather jacket of better quality because I think this is one of those pieces that you have to spend more on because they last a lifetime.

Let’s talk about this shoot super quickly. I loved this idea of shooting with just the jacket and a simple body chain. I was however super skeptical (and I still am) about posting this on my blog and Instagram and all other social media sites because it does bare a lot of skin. However, I think it’s no worse than what I have shot before so I’m just going to go with it and hope for the best!

SXSW Round Up

I lived so close to Austin for the majority of my life and I had not experienced SXSW like I did this year! I really took advantage of the pop-ups and panels and I wanted to share a few of the to-dos! I was invited to experience the Innovation Mansion which was super cool! Not only were there panels but Michael Stars pop up with their spring line, Charlotte Tilbury makeup touch-ups, and lots of creative innovations throughout the mansion. I added a ton of content to my Instagram story as always but even that was not enough! So instead of making a SXSW Instagram highlight, I summed it up in a quick post!

Innovative makeup apps like YouCamMakeup filled the mansion! There was also a vending machine where you put in your email and you receive a random free gift! I got some earrings from Kendra Scott!

These were taken after my Charlotte Tilbury makeup was done! The picture does not do it justice! It looked beyond amazing! I also got some free products to try out.

I had to snap a quick selfie at the Micheal Stars pop-up

I also attended Create and Cultivate’s event which was so amazing as well! Both events were filled with panels and freebies of amazing brands!

There was a great schedule of panels and the panelist line up was amazing. I even got to see Tan France from Queer Eye speak about the upcoming season! You can hear the live podcast taping on the Work Party Podcast.

There were so many sponsors as well from Batiste to Core water, Roxy and Paige. I even got my hair done while waiting for panels. It was seriously so much fun! Also getting to meet Dani Austin was a great highlight of the day!

Create and Cultivate always showcases the best of entrepreneurial ideas and advice always so going to that event was a must! The line to get in was long, and rightly so as this was one of the most beneficial events for someone like me. And let me tell you there are lots of people like me!

Western Wear

Being from Texas, I love any excuse I get to wear my boots! Boots are like one of those pieces that can tell your age. I started off with little pink boots because obviously, I love pink. I went through a phase where I just loved color in general so I had purple boots next. Being so small my foot did not grow much so these are the next boots I bought. The first real boots I have! I then later bought another pair that describe me super well now and they have long fringe so they look so fun when I dance! It’s just like that old saying, you can take the girl out of Texas (and move her to California) but you can’t take the Texas out of the girl!

Western was a bit of a hit recently. It popped up in a few places and I really loved what Show Me Your Mumu did with their western line! I also found a look pretty similar to this on one of my newer favorite places to shop, Verge Girl. Even though they are Australian based, they still hit the nail on the head with their look! I just had to copy it!

While the trend is slowly dying down, as most trends do, the boots are here to stay! Black boots paired with looks are lingering and are like the leftover part of the western trend in my opinion. BUT if you live somewhere like Texas boots are always in style! I linked a few of my favorites below in a range of prices for you to check out! Some are just for style, and some are for going out to a country concert in a dirt-filled lot. (Those are the best concerts in my opinion!!)

Would you wear more of a western look?

What would you say would be your hometown staple piece?Β

Get the Look

So if it hasn’t become apparent enough, I am stepping out of my fashion comfort zone and I haven’t stopped. Along with trying more boho looks, I have shot a few trendy and chic looks as well which is really killing my Instagram profile! But I like being able to pull off new looks and trying something that is different! Honestly, I know a lot of you are going to HATE this look as soon as it comes out on Instagram but I had to try it out! I was getting creative with the outfits I have and I wanted to share something new and different. Plus I am still in my phase of doing different kinds of looks so this one was included. These shoes are actually my moms and probably a size too big and I bought this romper from Wildfox at a sample sale! I tried again with the Spring outfit and black boots (similar post) and this is what I got. I also linked a few outfits to show you my inspiration and pieces to shop for yourself!

What do you think of this look?
