7 Magic Mountains + How My Style has Evolved

Seven magic mountains is another place that I stopped on my way from Los Angeles to Texas. A bit out of the way since it is right outside Las Vegas, but definitely worth it! Great photo ops, and I wish I was able to have gone when it was less crowded and in the afternoon, but we were on a time constraint! Still a cool place to visit if you’re in the area.

Where is your favorite place to go for photo ops?

I recently have been into a lot more edgier outfits. While I still love to keep everything fun and feminine, every once in a while I like to mix it up! Honestly boho is my current favorite! I like billowy tops and flare jeans… think Free People!

This outfit is a bit more grungy than I had hoped, but I was on a road trip, all of my outfits weren’t accessible, and I just had to go for it! Definitely something different but the color of the rocks made me feel better about al of the black! Also I just had to style my fanny pack from Quay Australia (linked below).

I used to dress super girly and honestly I still do, but every once in a while I like to mix it up. I am going for something a little more chic, recently. If you follow my instagram you will see a small change in filters for fall, but also in my looks. I am dressing things up with hats, big belt buckles, simple gold jewelry and fun booties. I really think I am a huge trend follower! Not on purpose, but I definitely just really like when an outfit is put together well!

Honestly all of the really good birthday years are behind me it feels like, so I wanted to do something fun this year to celebrate! I went to Dallas with my best friends and I couldn’t have been more excited! Since I am in Los Angeles, being away from all of my friends makes me miss them like crazy, so I am so excited to be able to spend the weekend with them somewhere I’ve never been before to celebrate my special day!

I planned on spending my actual birthday with my parents and my brother since I leave back to Los Angeles tomorrow and I am actually really excited to go back to work! Okay so this is going to be a bit of a jumbled post with a few different elements. Bear with me, and I hope you enjoy!

Grand Canyon + Road Trip Must Haves

Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? I can now say I have! While it was a quick stop on my detour home to Texas, it was seriously amazing! Crazy how big the world really is when you put it into perspective!

I came home for a few weeks between my leases in LA, which was a perfect time for a break to see my family and friends! I loved being home but I also loved the trips there and back! I got to shoot a few different places on my road trips which made it even more fun! I think I have become a pro at road tripping!

Also I should just point out I was the only one dressed as I was and I stuck out like crazy! Everyone was in hiking gear and I looked like I so did not belong! Definitely made me think about writing a post about being confident when you absolutely do not feel it! What do you think?

Some road trip essentials

Car Charger : This came in handy like crazy! I never brought my charger into the hotels we stayed at so I never left it behind. I never had to bring it in though because I would just charge it on the way!

Snacks : Okay duh! But snacks like sunflower seeds and gum help you stay up longer when you’re tired since you have to work on eating them, or blowing bubbles. Also the healthier the better because you are just sitting there so do not over eat!

Offline Listening : Wifi was constantly going in and out! Pre-download podcasts and if you have premium music channels definitely use those!

Books/Magazines : Goes with the wifi going in and out! Read to whoever is driving or just use it to make the time go by faster.

Accessible Bag : I put only clothes in here that I would wear during the road trip, a blanket, charger, books and a few toiletries in my bag next to me so I would take that into the hotel. Everything else sat in the trunk the whole time!

Wearing a Dress Two Ways

Did I even really go to LA if I didn’t do a quick shoot on Rodeo Drive?! Ugh I just love that part of Los Angeles. So upscale and clean and the food is amazing! Designer bags and brands at every corner. So picturesque as well! I loved the white walls and it didn’t hurt to get a few of the brands in the center don’t ya think?

Okay on to the dress. When I first opened the package I was not sure if I would like this. I decided to shoot it and give it a try. I liked the unique strap and I put it on and I honestly was not too crazy about it because I felt like I lost shape.

It was obviously a small (which was the smallest size) but I am still a petite girl so I did what I could with what I had and added an extra safety pin in the back to create a keyhole look that you can see above. It gave me more shape and made sure all of my chest area was not too exposed!

Still I tucked it in as a tank and I loved the simple gray feel of it! Also as a dress I can definitely see it as a beach cover up as well or if I’m lucky I can pair it with some killer heels and go out with it! I also love the simple accessory of the gold coin necklace! Definitely one of my favorite trends of the moment!

I am definitely keeping this dress now that I know how to style it!

Ready Set Sun with PrettyLittleThing

When I shop I like to have a few items I want in mind! A cute swimsuit, a gold necklace, a fun skirt! It’s the easiest way for me to shop online! PrettyLittleThing definitely gets it too! I shopped the vacation shop before I came to California and trust me I could not resist!

This white skirt I just had to have! The style was adorable and to be honest I’m a sucker for a sweet skirt! PrettyLittleThing also has a variety of styles and that’s what I love. If you’re a girly girl like me or even super chic and glam, there are pieces every girl will find. Also can we just take a second and talk about prices?! They are affordable and the material is great! Pieces that are durable and affordable.

What’s your favorite piece to wear for a day out in the summer sun? This is obviously mine!

Moving to a New City

I’ve been so blessed to be able to move to LA for this summer! It was such a new experience from being by myself, to finding new places to go to the gym, eat and go to church and making new friends. I am so proud of myself for being able to do this myself and live in California because I always wanted to even if it is for a short amount of time. This was like a fun, extended vacation and while I missed my friends and family like crazy I was so happy to do this as apart of my life.

I lived in student apartments right by UCLA which is very close to Bel-Air, and down the street from fraternity row I must add! I moved for an internship with a PR agency called PR for Artists. You could see the hollywood sign from the office and the roof had a gorgeous view!

I wanted to give a few tips and tricks for venturing out in a new city, or even moving back to your own city, and how I found my way around. I have learned a lot about myself recently and I think this is another experience I will always remember!

Make New Friends : I lived near UCLA so I stayed with college age girls and that’s how I made friends. Also just going to do things you love like yoga or art classes will make you friends with similar interests.

Location, location, location : Look around where you live, find places to eat, a gym and popular hangouts around you. It was super important for me to find a church so I definitely googled all of those things and more!

Find a Job : okay this is obvious but you need to find time to fill your days! Life is more fun when you have lots of things to do to fill your day with! Also the more you do the more people you meet and that is what counts!

Watch your Budget : This was the hardest thing for me because I always wanted to eat out and try a new place as well as do fun things! Plan out your week and the things you want to do, free stuff can be just as fun!

Plan to see your Family : It’s all fun and games until the homesickness hits! I was only gone for two months so I was with my dad on the drive there and back and I visited my momma the second month so that I would not get homesick! Also I snap chatted my friends constantly and begged them to come stay with me!

Step Out of your Comfort Zone, Safely : Do something new! Always try something that makes that place unique! But also be aware of your surroundings, keep your pepper spray handy and know some basic self defense!

Get a Cohesive Instagram Aesthetic

Ever seen those Instagram famous girls, Youtubers, bloggers or celebs on your feed and you go to their page to stalk them and their page looks like it was perfectly put together and thought out? Do you go to your page after and cringe? Hopefully not and that’s just a me thing! BUT I wanted to share a few of my tips for a cohesive Insta aesthetic incase that is you too!

One thing I do for sure is to edit for my platform. Below are a few examples of how I have done that. First is the original picture pre-editing in Adobe Lightroom. I always edit first for the blog since that is my main goal. Then I send that picture to myself and edit that same picture AGAIN but in my photo editor on my phone. What looks good on the computer screen will look totally different on your phone! Honestly just a few tweaks here and there do the trick.

Instagram Ready

  1. Decide what you want your Instagram to look like : Do you want lots of color? And orangey feel? Vintage looking photos? More nature in the background or you doing things with friends? Deicide what you enjoy and do the most of and go from there!
  2. Use the same filter every time : Do the same adjustments every time. I like to add pink undertones to my pictures then I only mess with the highlights and shadows. I start off doing the exact same number of adjustments every time and then since every picture is different, I then edit for that specific picture, not the other way around. This makes them all follow the same rules instead of creating a new look every time.
  3. Pinterest for Inspiration : Not only is Pinterest perfect for photo ideas but I have a friend that looks up filter presets on Pinterest before she changes her aesthetic to get ideas! Check out an example of what I’m talking about here and here or just search Pinterest ‘filter presets vsco’.
  4. Use an app : I use Planoly to schedule out my pictures and decide what pictures would look best next to each other. I always try to always take pictures with a new photo placement in mind. If I’ve had too many close ups I try to take one showing off the background or if I’ve taken a picture with a group I try to take a picture closer up of just me and a friend next to it to be more diverse.
