LikeToKnow.It Book Tour

There are so many opportunities that have presented itself since I have been in Los Angeles. Being able to attend one of the stops on the LikeToKnow.it book tour was definitely one of them. Listening to the advice from these bloggers was truly inspirational. I was able to have a real conversation with these genuine ladies who willingly shared their stories and tips to be successful.

Let me tell you, I try to attend as many blogging events as I can. Lots of the information I learn is usually for first-time bloggers. The tips and tricks shared are usually things that I practice myself or have heard at least once. At this event, that was not the case. I really learned so much about being a blogger in this oversaturated field. I was told things I had not known before and a few tricks I did not know. I actually even shared a few of my own as well!

I love events like this because they are networking opportunities. I was able to introduce myself to these amazing influencers and meet with smaller scale influencers as well.

Let’s talk about the book. The whole reason for the tour! The LikeToKnow.it book is full of the stories and interviews of huge influencers who are associated with LikeToKnow.it. Influencers who successfully provide fashion finds, style advice and lifestyle tips to others. This is what I hope to one day be. I did not know I wanted it until recently if I am being completely honest. But attending events like this remind me it is attainable. That the hustle is worth it. This book reminds me to start somewhere. That to be something you start at step one and push and pray until you get there. I am so young for this and there is so much more room to grow and more to learn. But trust me I am definitely doing this now.

It was a joy to sit in at this panel. While I wish I could attend and introduce myself to more of these amazing ladies, I am more than happy to settle for viewing their Instagram story for the tour! I hope to one day even work for LikeToKnow.it! Now that would be a full circle for me!

My Favorite Accessories of the Moment

Recently I’ve been trying to stick to more plain looks, white or gray tops and denim, but what sets the looks apart are accessories. I’ve noticed a few trends from other bloggers and I wanted to share a few of my own as well, especially for the summer months! I’ve worn these accessories on repeat through out summer and I do not plan to stop anytime soon. I love how easily they go with any outfit and how easily they are worn.

Picnic and Podcasts in the Park

Every Thursday I have been going to The Grove for ‘Picnic and Podcasts in the Park’. It was a weekly event for the month which featured live podcasts from Dear Media. The four events featured The Skinny Confidential Him & Her, As Seen Online with Jilly Hendrix, That’s so Retrograde and Work Party.

I had really only heard of two of the four but I enjoyed it so I RSVP’d to go after work every week. I honestly love listening to podcasts so this was right up my alley! If you know anything about Dear Media you know it is run by Michael Bosstick who is the Him in The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast. It was so exciting getting to meet them both after their live recording and I knew the rest of the podcasts would be great because they are both so creative and business savvy.

There was complimentary drinks, candy, macaroons and sometimes goodie bags! It was just a fun experience and I wanted to write about it because it was one of the fun things I got to do while in LA that not everyone gets to attend. I cannot wait to listen to more episodes and see how the company grows.

Wearing a Dress Two Ways

Did I even really go to LA if I didn’t do a quick shoot on Rodeo Drive?! Ugh I just love that part of Los Angeles. So upscale and clean and the food is amazing! Designer bags and brands at every corner. So picturesque as well! I loved the white walls and it didn’t hurt to get a few of the brands in the center don’t ya think?

Okay on to the dress. When I first opened the package I was not sure if I would like this. I decided to shoot it and give it a try. I liked the unique strap and I put it on and I honestly was not too crazy about it because I felt like I lost shape.

It was obviously a small (which was the smallest size) but I am still a petite girl so I did what I could with what I had and added an extra safety pin in the back to create a keyhole look that you can see above. It gave me more shape and made sure all of my chest area was not too exposed!

Still I tucked it in as a tank and I loved the simple gray feel of it! Also as a dress I can definitely see it as a beach cover up as well or if I’m lucky I can pair it with some killer heels and go out with it! I also love the simple accessory of the gold coin necklace! Definitely one of my favorite trends of the moment!

I am definitely keeping this dress now that I know how to style it!

Moving to a New City

I’ve been so blessed to be able to move to LA for this summer! It was such a new experience from being by myself, to finding new places to go to the gym, eat and go to church and making new friends. I am so proud of myself for being able to do this myself and live in California because I always wanted to even if it is for a short amount of time. This was like a fun, extended vacation and while I missed my friends and family like crazy I was so happy to do this as apart of my life.

I lived in student apartments right by UCLA which is very close to Bel-Air, and down the street from fraternity row I must add! I moved for an internship with a PR agency called PR for Artists. You could see the hollywood sign from the office and the roof had a gorgeous view!

I wanted to give a few tips and tricks for venturing out in a new city, or even moving back to your own city, and how I found my way around. I have learned a lot about myself recently and I think this is another experience I will always remember!

Make New Friends : I lived near UCLA so I stayed with college age girls and that’s how I made friends. Also just going to do things you love like yoga or art classes will make you friends with similar interests.

Location, location, location : Look around where you live, find places to eat, a gym and popular hangouts around you. It was super important for me to find a church so I definitely googled all of those things and more!

Find a Job : okay this is obvious but you need to find time to fill your days! Life is more fun when you have lots of things to do to fill your day with! Also the more you do the more people you meet and that is what counts!

Watch your Budget : This was the hardest thing for me because I always wanted to eat out and try a new place as well as do fun things! Plan out your week and the things you want to do, free stuff can be just as fun!

Plan to see your Family : It’s all fun and games until the homesickness hits! I was only gone for two months so I was with my dad on the drive there and back and I visited my momma the second month so that I would not get homesick! Also I snap chatted my friends constantly and begged them to come stay with me!

Step Out of your Comfort Zone, Safely : Do something new! Always try something that makes that place unique! But also be aware of your surroundings, keep your pepper spray handy and know some basic self defense!

My Favorite Online Boutiques

I always think the best, most unique pieces come from local boutiques. I love getting basics and trendy pieces from places like Forever 21 and more common places at the mall. But for a piece that not everyone has I like to go to thrift shops and specialty boutiques downtown. While we don’t all have the same places to shop, I wanted to share a few of my favorite online boutiques for you to check out! These places are some of my favorites and range in price, so check first before you totally fall in love with a killer look. Also leave a comment below on your favorite online or local boutique! I’d love to check it out!

Amazing Lace : Girly and fun, this shop has the best swimsuits as well! I never buy swimmies online, but I couldn’t resist and it fit me perfectly!

Berkley Elleven : Boho Style with a chill vibe, I love the layered jewelry they sell as well and they’re pieces are always unique

Sundae Muse : Australian boutique with super cute pieces, but it does take a while to be shipped because of the distance so keep that in mind and tends to run small so size up if it’s a tighter top!
