I have been addicted to watching ‘The Act’ on Hulu! It’s based on the true story of the seemingly sickly Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard. The story turns when Dee Dee ends up murdered and Gypsy Rose ends up missing. It is a must-see because there are so many unexpected discoveries and since it is true I recommend watching the full documentary on Youtube after! Super interesting and such a truly insane situation!

Skin Care

If you follow me on Instagram you know I was gifted with some cleansers, lotions, and creams by SebaMed! I have been using them daily and I am really enjoying the moisturizing face cream. I use it pretty much daily after I get out of the shower to seal in the moisture. Also, did I mention it is only $15?!

Shoe Trend

I am obsessed with clear, nude heels! I really want a pair because I can see myself wearing these for years! Have you ever felt like you have the perfect outfit but you don’t know what shoes to wear because you don’t want to ruin the whole outfit? These will do the trick. Plus I am all for simplicity and these could not be more simple!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Juicing

So let me start this one by saying I have not tried juicing for very long or extensively. I usually will do a day at most if I am trying a cleanse, but I love having a juice at least once a week to keep up with my veggie intake and because of the many benefits. I have tried so many different brands and the ones I recommend are sold at Whole Foods and Pressed Juicery! Those are the best tasting in my opinion and make it easy to use as a meal replacement or supplement.

I usually opt for a juice filled with various greens. I always follow it up with some cold water to speed up my metabolism and I really like it infused with lots of lemons! I would recommend every at least try a local juicery near them for the flavor at the very least!

Meshki has quickly grown to a more well-known brand especially because of Instagram and I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces. Also, there are a few similar versions of their pieces sold at Forever 21 if you love the look but not the price. However, I definitely recommend checking it out because the quality is really worth it for sure!

Getting Swim Suit Ready

Swim Suit season is basically here so let’s go over a few of my tips that I think are super important. I truly believe to have a swimsuit body you just put a swimsuit on a body. Still, living in an age where everyone seeing everything with one post, it is easy to feel judged over something so simple. Plus it is the worst looking at these perfect looking girls! Okay, mini rant over… let’s get on to the post.

1. If you are not happy with your body, do something about it!

I get super frustrated when I feel like I’ve gained a few. And I hate that you feel like you have to be swimsuit ready 24/7 for all of the summer. Take a fat day you know! But what I am trying to say is get ready by running or taking a fitness class. Work for what you want. Also, it makes you feel good after and like you’ve accomplished something. Plus there are so many health benefits to just getting up and moving!

2. Body Positivity.

This is a big one. While you are on the road to looking how you want to. Accept your body as is. Remember the blessing it is to even have a body, especially a working one. Own what you have and be confident no matter how big or small you are! And if you want to look different, revert back to 1.

3. Flatter yourself not fatter yourself

Wear the pieces that flatter your body no matter the size! I used to wear smaller pieces just because I could fit into them, but that doesn’t mean they look the best on you! Plus when it comes to swimsuits there are SO many different silhouettes that you can mix and match and find the pieces that you love. Pick a cute cover up for those days you aren’t feeling it. And of course a matching headband for a completed look!

Lash Lifts

I had a great response from everyone wanting to know more about Lash Lifts and my experience with them! I have had about three or four lash lifts now ever since I heard about it from my Little! I’ve had them done at two different places, one in Texas and one in LA and the process and everything was the same. ALSO, I am not a lash lift expert and do not know all of the terminologies and what goes into the chemicals used, however, I have had positive experiences with the process and wanted to share that with my readers!

I’ve heard it described as a lash perm! Really it is just a chemical put on your lashes that curls them and keeps them standing up instead of straight down. I have thin hair so obviously, my lash hairs are no different. I struggled with getting lash extensions for a while and was scared of the damage it did to your natural lashes. I was told the first time I went for a lash lift that extensions probably would not be best since my lashes were so thin and would struggle to hold up the extensions which would increase fall out. Also, I am so not ready for the upkeep of it!

I go once every four or five months and the lashes usually last about 6-8 weeks depending on how you take care of them. I buffer in a month or two for some down time to let my lashes have a break. I never see any breakage or anything out of the ordinary, I just like to be cautious.

Lash lifts are different from extensions!!! They are your natural lashes just curled upward so they look longer and like you just put on a single coat of mascara. Extensions tend to make your lashes fuller and more visible. Lifts make them longer and for some extra oomph, I like to just use a mascara with my bristles to separate them for a fuller look. Also, you save on mascara since you do not need to apply extra coats.

WHAT IS A LASH LIFT?
A lash lift is a non-invasive lash service that uses cream solutions to “lift” the eyelashes. Lash lifting is essentially a new age lash perm that uses cream-based products and silicone shields to curl eyelashes — eliminating the need for traditional lash curlers. Unlike old school lash perms, which use barrel rollers and give lashes an unnatural curl, lash lifts use silicone shields to lift the natural lashes upward, simultaneously giving height, length, and volume. Lash lifts often accompany lash tints (although a tint may be down on its own) and darken the lashes. When a lash lift and tint are used together, they replace the need for daily eyelash curlers and mascara.
ARE LASH LIFTS SAFE?
When provided by trained and experienced technicians, lash lifts are safe. Since they are cream-based products, they are easy to control and will not run into your eyes the way liquid solutions would. Always get your lash lifting service from a trained and certified lash lift technician.

How long it lasts : about 6-8 weeks

How much it costs : I would say anywhere from $70 – $100 depending on where you go. Mine usually cost $75

How long it takes : About an hour

Taking care of the lashes : No oils after getting this done! It can take away the product and make it not last as long. Carefully wash your face, I try to get my lash lifts with no makeup on and then go to sleep and not wash my face until the next day to really let the product set in even though you probably can use most cleansers. I am gentle around my eyes for a while to make the lift last as long as possible.

Don’t try if you are prone to eye problems!

Self-Health + Bloopers

Rolling in the New Year with a much-needed laugh! As a huge part of self-health, I think it’s important to laugh at yourself. Take the few bumps in the road and laugh at it just because you can. Here are a few of my unedited shots from my past shoots.

In all seriousness though, it is important to take some time for yourself. Eat your veggies, drink your water and handle your stuff. Put a face mask on or go for a long drive. Dance it out like on Grey’s Anatomy. Good ole’ retail therapy can give you a quick fix. Read a book that you actually enjoy, or a magazine you haven’t picked up in a while. Take a friend to lunch and dish it all out. Do whatever you need to do to release the stress and get it all out.

Like why am I holding my leg?!

Living in LA has been so amazing and challenging at the same time. I miss my group of friends and my support system. It has been such a growing experience from learning when your car needs a jump start and not knowing anyone that knows how to a first real job and getting scammed out of an apartment. Honestly, there have been times where I left work and just called my mom crying because I was so stressed and poor and not happy. But I think this is a really big rollercoaster because I have also had times where I cannot help but just thank God at the moment and when I look at a Malibu beach it’s hard to imagine anything could be more beautiful.

I could honestly have gone back at almost any time, and I would have gone back to not having to share a room, to my little pup, to eating out and hanging out with my friends and family and being happy the majority of the time. As I am writing this I am not sure why I didn’t honestly. I think I needed this period of time in my life though and I think I just let my pride get in the way and wanted to keep pushing through for reasons only God knows why. Actually… I think it’s because I always wanted to live here and I always wanted to get out of the San Antonio area and I felt like a failure if I went back. But I always knew I would go back, so at some point I would “fail”. I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole situation. I know one thing and that’s my style and taste, and adventure and possibilities will always belong here in Los Angeles, but my happiness and safety and home will be back home in Texas.

So what’s up with my legs? And that face??

Okay, rant over. I guess at the end of the day it’s all about your health and happiness. Always make sure the good outweighs the bad and when it doesn’t question its worth. This goes for people too, it sucks letting people go but it’s worst holding on to them sometimes. Do the things that make you happy and when you can’t reward yourself. Do your nails, take your time away from electronics, block out life and just take a good nap. Hope this helped a little! I’m probably saying things that are pretty obvious, but obviously, need to be heard.

Actual Things I do to Stay Small

I’m a typical girl and I get frustrated when I feel like I’ve gained a pound or two.. or three. I want to starve myself but as soon as I get hungry I give in and totally eat whatever is in front of me. I snack way more often then I have meals some days just because I get full off of veggie chips/popcorn/granola. But I have tried to find things that help me stay fit and here is a few things I have come up with. Honestly, I’m not sure if this is dietition approved but these are just a few things I have heard and actually tried!

One thing I have not tried is the apple cider vinegar every morning! Have you tried it? Does it work? Let me know!

  1. Drink lots of water : I do this almost as a detox. I will do at least three days a week where I chug water all day and make sure I finish at least six bottles. It’s not too hard now actually! And I get thirsty quicker on the days I do not do it! I try to do these every few days as a small detox.
  2. Juice Cleanses : I do not do these often and I wouldn’t recommend to. If that is your thing then go for it! But aside from the fact that you are not feeding your body the same way as it is used to, you want to save a juice cleanse for when you are really noticing you gained weight, not just on a day where you feel fatter. You don’t want your body used to a cleanse, you want it to be your secret weapon!
  3. One big workout a week : I work out almost daily. But I focus on for sure working out 3-4 times a week. What I just realized though is if I do regular/moderate workouts and then one really hard workout a week where I will be sore the next day it will keep me in shape!
  4. Walk everywhere : I sit so much for work and sometimes I honestly get frustrated and want to bust out a few squats! What I like to do to combat that is park a little farther, walk to the mall nearby (it’s literally the next street over) or to a CVS and I feel like I combatted that effect a little bit.
  5. Count my calories : I am always counting my calories. I can honestly feel it when I go over them a lot too! But there are days also where you just need to have a cheat meal and enjoy it. Balance yes, but favoring the healthy side of the scale!
