Valentine’s day Gift Guide + Outfit Details

Valentine’s day is one of my favorite holidays! It always has been ever since I was younger and would get to pick out Valentine’s cards to give out to the class! I even would buy Valentine’s for my friends in high school. I love the pinks, reds, and purples. Hearts and the odds and ends that come with the holiday are always so cute! I also really liked shooting this outfit! Something different for me as I am trying to be more trendy with this, but I love trying new looks and genres of fashion. I also included some sweet gifts for the special girls in your life! These are sweet little reminders to share that will last a bit longer than a heart balloon and candy!

Dressing Room Diaries : Free People

I have always loved Free People and since I have a newfound love for boho, I had to do a try-on at the store! A few of these pieces may not be as accessible since I found some on the sales racks. But here is a short haul with a few of my newest favorites at the store right now!

Let me know if you think I should do more of these dressing room try-ons/hauls. I also did another try-on at the LA thrift store Wasteland. I actually really like doing them because I get to show off new pieces that I enjoyed but that did not exactly make it to the blog.. and a few that did!

Is there a store that you would like to see me to go check out around the LA area?

Let’s start off with this crop top! So comfy and I really like wearing small tops because I am young and I still can! It’s like a mini skirt.. You won’t always be able to wear them so do it while you can! I would definitely wear this at home or a quick trip just hanging out.

These jeans are soooo comfy! I actually will probably be buying these eventually because they are so soft and allow you to move! Plus I really like the button up details. My only thing was I don’t like that much distressing. But these were a size 24 and they still were a comfy fit!

This furry black crop top was so incredibly soft! It was very small and I thought it was so cute! I would wear it for a night out with some black jeans or a high waisted skirt! This was the last one on the sale rack so I’m linking a similar top.

This top was a huge trend a few seasons ago. I love the lace detailing and it is so easy to throw on and wear by itself or under another piece. Also, it came in a few different colors.

I tried on this brami because it looked so soft. Soft and comfy seem to be the words I keep using but it really is true! All of the pieces are so easy to wear! Obviously, I would not just wear this top out but it is a great piece for at home or under a top.

This jacket has been on my wishlist for a while now! I just think it looks so cool and can spruce up a plan jean and tee look and take it to the next level! Now that it is on sale it is a must to get!

I saw this set on the sale rack and I had to try it! It gave me Coachella vibes from two years ago. Such a fun look and the skirt is so fun and fits so well. I usually do not like this scrunchy material for some reason.. looks kind of *cough cough* cheap to me, but you cannot really see it because of the bold print so I am all for it!

Dressing Room Diaries : Wasteland

I went to Wasteland on Melrose because there are so many great finds there! From vintage tees to these super cool Stella McCartney shoes that I wanted so bad (but they were too big) and name brands galore, it’s one of the best places to go “thrifting” if it even qualifies. I really just wanted to go look for some fun pieces to shoot and I started taking pictures of my outfit and then I thought, hey why don’t I make this its own post on the blog! So here we are…

Let’s go piece by piece. I will try to link similar pieces but there is no telling if these pieces are still being sold! That’s what makes them great finds! Also if the pairing of the top and bottom is a bit different it’s just because I did not plan to match them or make a blog post, I made due with what I bought into the dressing room!

This romper looked gorgeous on the hanger and it felt so good on too! I like how it was short and the sleeves were asymmetrical and lace which was so fun! It took a little time to get into but it was worth it!

Why I didn’t get it : it wasn’t everything I envisioned when I actually put it on even though I really liked it! I wanted the material to be a bit different as well so I wasn’t exactly ready to drop the $150 for something I wasn’t totally in love with!

This top was one of my favorites! I had been wanting a top like this from For Love and Lemons for a while! I saw this one and I loved it and it had a great color. I have been really into these kinda bralettes recently and bought a similar one from Victoria Secret.

Why I didn’t get it : even though I loved the color, I was not crazy about the back. I wanted the lace to wrap all the way around. Also, as I mentioned I did just get a similar bralette from Victoria Secret so I was not exactly looking for a new one.

The black skort was also a favorite of mine because it is one of those basic pieces you just need. I actually would wear this outfit with some heels for a night out! It was made of great material and was not boxy at all which is what I have a hard time with when I shop skirts. It actually tapered in a tiny bit at the top so that it would be flattering and I would like to personally thank the maker of the skirt for that feature!

Why I didn’t get it : I already have a black leather skirt and while this one is different, I do not wear the other one often enough. This is a basic piece that I know I can find cheaper somewhere like forever 21 or H&M.

This golden skirt caught my eye and was the very first piece I picked out at Wasteland. I adore the velvet and the color and I know I could style it easily. The small peplum at the bottom is really what sold me on it! Plus it is another piece by For Love and Lemons and let me tell you I love that brand!

Why I didn’t get it : The only reason I did not buy this one is because it was too big and I did not want to buy something I would have to pay more for to get altered. Plus I’m not sure how it would look after altering velvet!

How cute is this velvet, burnt orange top?! I was obsessed as soon as I saw it. It has a great crop and a slight shoulder puff. The v neckline is my favorite detail as well! Such a great color and I can totally see myself wearing it out at night or paired with some jeans and gold jewelry during the day! Plus this is actually really great material as well!

Why I didn’t get it : I really thought about going back for this one actually! But I just got a similar skirt for Christmas! Same color, not velvet, but also cropped. So I shouldn’t have duplicate pieces to shoot.

Okay, so this outfit was more for fun than anything! I think I would shoot a look like this for fun but I would not really wear the pieces anywhere after. The skirt just looked cool to me and I liked the silhouette of it so I wanted to try it on since I predicted it would look good on me! The lace-up white tee just looked cool also and I knew it would pair well with the skirt.

Why I didn’t get it : I wasn’t sold on the tee even though I usually am a sucker for a white tee! And as I said the skirt was just fun to try on! I thought it was different so I had to just add it to my fitting room haul!

Thanks for reading, let me know if I should make this a series or stick to simply shooting looks!

Styling Tulle

Styling Tulle. So I talked about stepping out of my comfort zone style-wise in my past blog post. This outfit definitely qualifies. This definitely is not something that I would just wear anywhere and now that I think about it, I have a very hard time placing where exactly someone would wear this outfit…

Any suggestions?

I’ve had this skirt in my closet for a while now, I actually shot it two years back for Valentine’s day and I actually wore a similar colored top now that I think about it! Why I choose to wear tulle in the winter is beyond me. I was absolutely freezing for this shoot! There were multiple times I ran the short distance back to the car to warm up and try my best to keep my nose from getting red. I go full Rudolph in the winter.

Tulle is one of those fabrics you just know when you see it! It stands out and when you get a good amount it just automatically looks divine! I am coming to realize I am a sucker for most pieces in white. Definitely a must! Black would just be a little too harsh for this look in my opinion. I styled it with a sweater mostly because it was freezing and also who wants to see a shot of someone in a tank top during winter? But this sweater has a great asymmetric feel, perfectly falls off the shoulder, and the small flare to the sleeve just ties it all together. After all, the devil is in the details.

A few of my tips for wearing tulle?

  1. Keep the rest of the outfit simple : you want the tulle to be the statement piece, the piece a person’s eyes automatically go to when they first see your look
  2. Mix fabrics : you, of course, do not want your whole look to be tulle, layering with a structured top is probably your best bet for wearing out a tulle skirt somewhere nice.
  3. Stick to one color : it can already be hard to find matching pieces, so don’t make it harder and get tulle AND a print together. Your other outfit pieces can have print, of course, but solid colors are the way to go in my opinion!

Boho Vibes

What is your favorite kind of style? Chic? 90’s? Mine has been more boho recently! I’ve been getting more into more of a western-y, fun look more and more. I have been venturing out of my comfort zone and have been wearing pieces that I think are different and not something that you would just wear for a day at the mall. When I find a piece I really like I usually describe the piece as “fun”. This can be anywhere from a chic pointy-toed see-through heel to an embroidered Dior bag.

I’ve gotten a lot of my style inspiration from Instabloggers like Anna Grace Newell and Tezza. While I am still not over my girly chic style, I love being able to find new looks to pull off. Plus my dad called me a hippie a few months ago and I realized that since my family now things I just juice and wear bell bottoms I might as well embrace the boho/hippie vibes and go with it! Peaceeee Mannnn!

Every piece of this outfit is essential! Let’s break it down real quick.

This hat is the epicenter of this outfit! It matches perfectly with the light pink shoes and the sheer pink long sleeve. The yellow of the dress adds a pop of color and the jewels are so small and simple they add to the mix of texture with the tiny polka dots on the sheer top. This outfit is like a chocolate chip cookie, the dough and the chocolate are pretty good by themselves, but amazing when they are together!

I love mixing prints that just go! I am predicting that trendy, fun pieces are going to seep more into people’s everyday lives since I recently visited Rodeo Drive and so many of the stores had eclectic pieces! I honestly cannot wait to be walking down the street in this kind of outfit! I would love to do a blog post on the cool street style I see other people wear here in LA.

Would you like to see a post like that?

A lot of the time I actually just put outfits together in my head and hope for the best. Usually, they do not look ANYTHING like I imagine. But then again that is because not every sweater, jean or skirt have the same silhouette or hit at the correct length or have the same material thickness. (Ugh how I wish I could sew.)

This look I tried on for the first time New Year’s Eve. While I wanted to wear my revolve dress, I figured going out to bars in a college town was not the time to tempt fate with my nice dress and I felt like I would stick out like a sore thumb in something I was not totally 100% satisfied with. I ended up wearing this dress… which I wore on Christmas also so I am a major holiday outfit repeater! But when I tried it on with this sheer long sleeve underneath I was horrified! I had the wrong bra, my hair was up and was not getting the right vibes! BUT I ended up shooting with it after all mostly because of the hat and it worked out well! Some random drunk girl even said that she loved my dress and I looked like Pocahontas!!

Self-Health + Bloopers

Rolling in the New Year with a much-needed laugh! As a huge part of self-health, I think it’s important to laugh at yourself. Take the few bumps in the road and laugh at it just because you can. Here are a few of my unedited shots from my past shoots.

My face when people keep interrupting my shot

My favorite go-to face

*thinking about how I’m going to get through the rest of this shoot*

In all seriousness though, it is important to take some time for yourself. Eat your veggies, drink your water and handle your stuff. Put a face mask on or go for a long drive. Dance it out like on Grey’s Anatomy. Good ole’ retail therapy can give you a quick fix. Read a book that you actually enjoy, or a magazine you haven’t picked up in a while. Take a friend to lunch and dish it all out. Do whatever you need to do to release the stress and get it all out.

Like why am I holding my leg?!

Living in LA has been so amazing and challenging at the same time. I miss my group of friends and my support system. It has been such a growing experience from learning when your car needs a jump start and not knowing anyone that knows how to a first real job and getting scammed out of an apartment. Honestly, there have been times where I left work and just called my mom crying because I was so stressed and poor and not happy. But I think this is a really big rollercoaster because I have also had times where I cannot help but just thank God at the moment and when I look at a Malibu beach it’s hard to imagine anything could be more beautiful.

I could honestly have gone back at almost any time, and I would have gone back to not having to share a room, to my little pup, to eating out and hanging out with my friends and family and being happy the majority of the time. As I am writing this I am not sure why I didn’t honestly. I think I needed this period of time in my life though and I think I just let my pride get in the way and wanted to keep pushing through for reasons only God knows why. Actually… I think it’s because I always wanted to live here and I always wanted to get out of the San Antonio area and I felt like a failure if I went back. But I always knew I would go back, so at some point I would “fail”. I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole situation. I know one thing and that’s my style and taste, and adventure and possibilities will always belong here in Los Angeles, but my happiness and safety and home will be back home in Texas.

So what’s up with my legs? And that face??

Okay, rant over. I guess at the end of the day it’s all about your health and happiness. Always make sure the good outweighs the bad and when it doesn’t question its worth. This goes for people too, it sucks letting people go but it’s worst holding on to them sometimes. Do the things that make you happy and when you can’t reward yourself. Do your nails, take your time away from electronics, block out life and just take a good nap. Hope this helped a little! I’m probably saying things that are pretty obvious, but obviously, need to be heard.
